A2B Bikeshare

Providing communities with hardware and software for automated bike rentals--bikeshare. a2bbikeshare.com

What's the big idea?

A2B Bikeshare envisions a world in which communities of all sizes have bike sharing systems. These systems would enrich these communities by making them greener, more prosperous and connected—all without government subsidy while still providing returns for investors.

Our solution is a Smart Bike – Dumb Rack solution. With a touch screen secured between the handlebars, users have access to an easy rental process and features like navigational maps, guided tours, and points of interests during their ride. GPS on the bikes tracks location and system status at all times.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

Bcycle and Bixi currently dominate the market with kiosk docking station systems. This system architecture is prohibitively expensive without government support, costing   ~$5,000/ bike and $2,500/ bike / year to operate.

How are you different from that player?

Our Smart-Bike Dumb rack systems cuts the capital cost by a third.

Cheap and plentiful dumb racks lower redistribution costs which is a major drive of overall operations cost.

This combined with improved operational efficiency from our software suite makes bikesharing profitable.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

Our lower capital and operations cost which make bike sharing profitable removes the need for the long government funding process. This allows for a quicker business cycle and will disrupt our competitors as we move the market away from government subsidy.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

A2B Bikeshare is the company to execute on this vision as we have the technical and business talent in place, 4 full time team members. This team has already been able to secure and execute on a pilot program that launched this fall in Lansing and will continue in the spring.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

This funding would support additional development, customer discovery and larger scale user testing our maintenance and redistribution software.
