Greenitian

We manufacturer reusable sandwich bags and other "green living" products for school fundraisers.

What's the big idea?

We are currently manufacturing reusable sandwich bags and selling them to a local school as a fundraising program. We want to take this model and expand our reach to schools and non-profit organizations across the country. Our fundraising program offers schools and organizations a higher profit margin than the traditional programs. This green program replaces the sale of unhealthy, consumable goods, a common choice for school fundraisers, and offers a healthy, reusable, earth-friendly option. The end result: financially healthier schools and non-profits, healthier kids, and a healthier planet.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

There are numerous options for school fundraisers, however, their are non that are focusing specifically on reusable, green living products.

How are you different from that player?

With the increasing obesity rate and national awareness on the importance of reusing, reducing and recycling, our company offers products that promote healthy kids and a healthy environment. Our program also offers a 70-80% higher profit margin than other programs.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

There are over 13,000 school districts in the US and countless non-profits that are always looking for new ways to raise funds to support their programs. Once our brand is established there is also the opportunity to retail in brick and mortar and online stores.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

I currently own a manufacturing company that has the necessary man power and equipment to mass produce these products. We have already seen great success in the sale of these products through a local school district and have a model that is ready to be expanded across the country.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

Since summer break is just around the corner we would use this money to produce stock to sell directly to non-profits that operate year around.

Promote healthy eating, raise more money for schools, and cut down on what goes to the landfill…what’s not to like?  Sounds like a great idea, and I endorse it!

I’ve been working with the “sales force” (an enthusiastic group of 4th graders)  to move these reusable sandwich bags at our school.  And are they moving!  In just 2 days (15 minutes before school starts and at lunch) we’ve sold over 150 bags!  Kids love the fun patterns on the bags, but are especially excited about being green and helping save the planet.  And you know how contagious the enthusiasm of a child can be.  If our school is any indication, this is a fabulous fund raiser that the next generation will whole-heartedly embrace!

I was at Smart Garden a couple of weeks ago and listened to your presentation.  I am very interested in more information on promoting these baggies at our school and would like to present the idea to our PTA.  Our school just became green certified and received its Green School flag.  I am new to our school district but I am extremely pushy when it comes to getting new things promoted and really would like to get this effort moved forward.  Thanks.
