What's the big idea?
Growing Health Farms LLC involves growing organic vegetables (mainly lettuce, micro-greens, and fish) year round, LOCALLY, in Michigan. This is a closed-loop, sustainable form of agriculture. The fish are fed an organic meal and their waste is then converted through anaerobic bacteria into nutrients for the lettuce. The lettuce filter the nutrients and provide a clean water that is then channeled back into the fish tank.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
There is local lettuce available for brief period of time in early summer and early fall in limited quantity (and is usually non-organic). There are imports of lettuce throughout the country available to everyone at your supermarkets.
How are you different from that player?
We offer more than just Romaine lettuce: growing 8 different varieties of leaf lettuces as well as spices and micro-greens that are as much as 25% protein will offer consumers nutrient rich, local and organic alternatives year round in Michigan. Not to mention, sustainably farmed!
How's the world different with your idea in it?
We grow more than just food, we grow health. Supporting our local economy with nutritionally dense, organic alternatives to our processed-food based food diet is what this world needs. Not to mention we will still be able to turn a healthy profit while donating 10% of produce to local food banks.
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
I’ve spent years studying and designing my current system. I will be able to provide research and new technology so that this system can meet the demands of our food industry without sacrificing environmental issues for future generations to come.
