What's the big idea?
With the advent of the internet, why do people still go to the mall? Because it’s a social experience… HangTrend.com brings together the physical clothes shopping experience (where you get to go with friends and create outfits)with the online shopping experience (where you can search hundreds of items instantly). We allow users to search thousands of brands (Boss, Urban Outfitters, and more) to find the exact clothes they are looking. They can add them to their virtual closet where users can create outfits, explore friends’ closets, share items and give/receive feedback with their friends.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
Polyvore.com - The largest player currently. Polyvore is a fashion site that allows users to create “Sets”, a style collage with multiple items. Users can share their sets with other users; they can also purchase some of the items.
How are you different from that player?
HangTrend focuses on the social aspect of fashion and shopping; On HangTrend, users can share clothes and outfits directly with friends. They can recommendations and make recommendations. All Items on HangTrend.com are purchasable.
How's the world different with your idea in it?
Let’s say you’re going to a wedding next week, but you don’t know what shoes to wear; Ask your friends on HangTrend!
Or it’s your friend’s birthday but you don’t know what to get them… Look in their HangTrend closet and get them something they want!
HangTrend can change the way people buy clothes!
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
The founding team is so dedicated to the project that we left full time jobs to pursue this vision. In less than 6 months we’ve created a fully functional beta site with real users, we’ve partnered with huge brands companies like Macy’s and Urban Outfitters and we have the drive to succeed.

The site has a nice UI, nice work! What is the difference, though, between your service and that found with pinterest, svpply, gentlemint, and the other content curators? I’m sure your team has found a niche in the space, but I don’t see what makes your service better/different.

Great Question! Our biggest differentiator is our recommendation engine and our sharing capabilities. At HangTrend we are able to analyze your style and recommend you new items that you love! We want to help you find new brands, outfits, and inspiration much easier and faster! Secondly, we have a huge focus on sharing. We make it extremely easy for you to ask your friends for their opinion and to recommend them items that you think they would like. Also, at the end of the day everything on HangTrend can be directly purchased from the designer. What this translates too is a sustainable business model that does not revolve around advertisements. We are trying to create a single entry point for users to shop online. We want to have all your favorite brands and friends on the site so you can Shop and Share all one on platform. Because remember, shopping should be a social experience!

Your website may have a potential for growth. The only question I have is how will you import all these massive product data and images unless you are using a third party data provider which may be expensive? If it is through the retailers then you may need some sort of data import for each of the retailer’s data. You may have steep challenge against Kaboodle and Polyvore. By the way I endorsed your site… find more features that are not available in those sites that you may think will features that the users cannot live without them.

... from the last statement above… I mean will be features of your site that your users cannot live without them.

Thanks for the endorsement Dante! The data and images are one of the challenges we faced, but there are a lot of options out there that allow us to do this at a relatively low cost. Right now, we have over 1million products in our database and are still growing. We are able to use Amazon’s Web Services (AWS), which is very scale-able and flexible on how you use their resources and are not as expensive as many expect. We do actually have deals with hundreds of retailers, who provide us with the images and some data on the products, and like you mentioned, we import it into our own database.
