What's the big idea?
Pop In Gym offers 1-day, 4-day or 1-month passes to gyms. Easily search for the amenities you want, purchase the pass and go workout. The passes are redeemable on your smart device.
I used to travel for work a great deal. Being on the road, I wasn’t eating very well and most of the time, whether it was AirBnB or a hotel, I didn’t have access to great gym facilities like I did at home. I wanted to option to buy short term access to gyms around me without having to do all the leg work of figuring out the best gyms closest to me or deal with sales people.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
PayAsUGym is the nearest player in the field and they’re across the pond in London.
How are you different from that player?
We won’t be offering large discounts. We also offer a more secure mobile redemption process. Most importantly, we’ll also be in the US! Our competitors are currently expanding through the UK with plans to expand through Europe after that.
How does this idea scale into a big business?
We plan on building a self-service platform for gyms in any city to onboard themselves onto the platform. We also plan to connect with major gym chains like Bally’s, 24HrFitness and LAFitness to have a wide array of selection for our users in major cities.
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
Also, my background is in Sales and Business Development at startups. I was also Head of Account Management at a deal site. So, I have extensive knowledge in dealing with local businesses as well as a mobile redemption process. I’ve done this already! 12 gyms in NY have already said they need this.
What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?
We would use the money to 1) Complete our MVP 2) LinkedIn and FB ads to drive traffic 3) Use money to print t-shirts, sweatbands and flyers for sxsw to get the word out! We plan to have gyms in the Austin area during sxsw. Who better to use the platform than the active sxsw twitter user!
