App for HS coaches to engage players in skill development & communicate to parents and other coaches

What's the big idea?

Coaches will create their own library of sport specific drills and plays by filming Varsity players. The content is sent out to the players and coaches in the program through the app.
Players log their performance of the drill on the app. The player’s performance is pushed to the “leaderboard” where all players and coaches can see it.
When a player creates an account, it instantly populates the K-12 program database.  Thus empowering coaches to easily communicate with constituents (players, parents, coaches, fans, etc).
A coaching staff can use the drills to enable continuity in the program

Describe the nearest player in your field.

Hudl creates a space online to share game film with other coaches and game film with players
BetterBasketball and other skill development specialists have video offerings of drills
Numerous independent youtube videos with drills etc.

How are you different from that player?

We specialize in customizing skill development videos.  A kid sees the star player doing the drill on the app and wants to be like the star player - so he practices and tracks his time/score.  When numerous kids do this, they begin to compete amongst each other which gets them practicing more.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

There are 756 high schools in Michigan and over 34,000 high schools in the U.S.  We conservatively estimate a 30% penetration at a $1000 price point.  By charging these schools an annual subscription there will be an continuous revenue stream as well as an opportunity to sell advertising.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

My partner and I have a unique perspective of understanding the pain points of a coach as well as an acute understanding of the business world.  We thrive on applying business principles to running our basketball program.  This is a natural space for us to play in.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

We will put the $5000 towards the software development costs of the beta version of the application which we will have done by end of June.  This MVP will allow us to pilot the program with up to 5 other coaches this summer.
