What's the big idea?
The idea is to start a line of packaged African food products manufactured here in west Michigan. Not only will we be introducing authentic African foods, soups and drinks. We will also be adding an African twist to well known American foods like chicken wings.
We are scheduled to start production in the next week or two through a copacking company at Hudsonville, Michigan. We have pending orders from stores and the $5,000 will help us with production costs.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
Part of the recent trend in the food industry is the introduction of ethnic foods (e.g indian, chinese)into mainstream market. Currently there is no packaged African food manufacturer that we know of. Our goal is to fill this void.
How are you different from that player?
Grocery stores are starting to have sections dedicated to ethnic food products like chinese and indian foods, but nothing african. Our goal is to fill that void by introducing successful authentic African foods to mainstream American stores.
How's the world different with your idea in it?
With our idea, we hope to bring manufacturing jobs back to Michigan while introducing new authentic flavors. We also hope to support both local Michigan farmers and African farmers that supply the ingredients we use.
