Waypointer

Save your parking spot, share the best corn at farmer's market, find your pal in the food court.

What's the big idea?

Waypointer is a GPS app from the future. Using your phone’s built-in GPS and compass functionality, you can save your current location with one tap, then view and return to saved points with ease. Make any of your saved points public, and share them with the world. Plus, connect with friends using your existing Facebook or Twitter account to share spots privately, or instantly share your live location and find your friends when they’re nearby. “Let’s meet at that statue at the east end of the park” has never been easier.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

There is no single app that includes all the features of Waypointer. iOS’ Maps app allows for one “dropped pin”, and Apple’s Find My Friends offers a list of friends and their locations. Some niche apps allow users to save GPS bookmarks, but are aimed at geocaching, marine/aerial navigation, etc.

How are you different from that player?

None of the individual apps provide the combination of features that makes Waypointer special: clever GPS features with deeply-integrated social sharing. Focusing on clean, intuitive design, the app will outperform each respective player while offering functionality that none of the players provide.

How's the world different with your idea in it?

Any place on Earth can become a milestone, a rendezvous point, a favorite spot. Be it a park bench or an airport terminal, Waypointer will provide a depth of context and interaction that doesn’t currently exist. The collective consciousness and initials carved in a tree, all in one.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

I’ve been creating websites for over a decade, and have independently designed, developed, and shipped multiple apps for iOS and Android in the last year. I have the expertise necessary to see it through from start to finish. Plus, this is an app I want to use. Scratching my own itch, so to speak.

Perfect. Now I don’t have to remember where I parked my car…  I just have to remember to take my phone!
