bike light clip

A cyclist can clip luminescent wire to a bicycle wheel making the bike visible

What's the big idea?

Halek Enterprises, Inc. makes a clip that makes it easy for cyclists to mount electroluminescent (EL) wire to a bicycle wheel.  We have patent-pending on the clip itself.  It attaches to the spoke nipple as opposed to the spoke, making it transferable from bike to bike.  It is light and small and does not interfere with cycling performance.  It is a safety device and a method of expression.  We have, in a way, reinvented the wheel.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

There are a number of cycling acessories that light up a bicycle.  Bike-Glo just sells EL wire.  Others sell products that light up a point on a wheel, which requires the bike to be in motion to be of full use.  No one appears to be offering a product that mounts EL wire to a wheel.

How are you different from that player?

We take a proven technology and make it easier to use.  The clip itself is what makes us different.  Our clip is easy to mount, immediately identifies a bike even when the bike is not in motion, and can be quickly placed on another bike.  All are improvements over similar cycling accessories.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

This product can be sold on safety, performance and flair.  It will be attractive to cyclists around the world.  This product is easy to manufacture and ship.  With such global potential, it should quickly find a market beyond specialty cycling stores.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

We have professional contacts in Europe, Asia and South America.  We believe that we can take this idea to international markets .  Our contacts make the full scale vision possible.  We have the business accumen and engineering skill to raise a quality product from workbench to retail shelf.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

We would make 20 sets of clips and use them to perform a little market research by giving them to friends across the USA.  Using an on-line survey site, we would know more about our product’s market potential.  We also need to produce a prototype to make a mold for future manufacturing.

I like it!  I could sell 20 of these to all of the kids that “run” with my son in our neighborhood!  They live on their bikes in the summer.

  9. John Weber

My son already wants them on his bike!

Congrats on the endorsement! If you need help putting a prototype together, get a hold of me and I can use my StartGarden funded business, ENTRPRSR, to help you out. I’m connected with Engineering professors in the area and can find you some help =)
