Craft House

More than a gallery, Craft House is a space for artists to connect, find support and learn.

What's the big idea?

To build the ultimate artist’s resource—a professional support system and touchstone for contemporary trends in the fine art industry. If funded Craft House will be able to initiate the following projects; physical gallery improvements; the construction of a library featuring unique artists’ books and printed materials that will accompany a rotating display of featured artwork; the creation of an artist service-trade program designed to connect the knowledge-able to the knowledge-seeking with an emphasis on career development.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

Designed for local emerging and professional artists, we pick up where the college advisor, resource librarian, and collegiate mentor left off—think Linkedin for artists, throw in the hands-on guidance and support of your favorite teacher and a quality exhibition space and you’ve got Craft House.

How are you different from that player?

Unlike other gallery spaces designed to sell artwork Craft House is dedicated to helping artists with all the steps that come before that moment. To create engaging, quality work and to get their work on the wall requires the guidance of knowledgeable professionals and a supportive community.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

We will offer specific services for hire including professional photographic documentation of one-of-a-kind artwork and reproduction printing, hourly rates for resume and website building. We also plan to develop a variety of workshops and gallery rental options.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

As recent graduates we are aware of the difficulties in trying to go-it-alone as a professional artist and have worked hard to connect with the local creative community. We are poised to utilize the wealth of knowledge and talent of local artists, curators, writers and designers.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

We will initiate an artists’ service-trade program, establish a regular feedback forum for artists seeking critical insights, and the construct a publicly accessible artist’s library and rotating small gallery.
