“My Wallet” app

A companion iOS app for the "My Wallet" children's card set.

What's the big idea?

The “My Wallet” card set, for children ages 3 and up, includes irresistible, durable and nontoxic cards and play money in a cool kid-friendly wallet. The set (funded by our Kickstarter Backers) is designed to mimic adult’s wallets and includes a Children’s Museum membership card, a library card, a license, and a bank card, offering hours of pretend play.

The companion “My Wallet” iOS app features activities that pair with the theme of each card. For example, scanning the Children’s Museum card unlocks activities found at most children’‘s museums, bubbles, puppets and musical instruments.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

There are currently no other children’s card sets with a companion iOS app. Children’s apps are exciting and fruitful territory, and no one seems to be pairing physical objects with interactive apps for children at this time.

How are you different from that player?

This unique set of cards along with the companion app is the only pairing of its kind. Young children often believe that still pictures can be manipulated if touched, even have sound. Bringing this level of interactivity into fruition is a natural next step. Children already expect it to happen.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

The “My Wallet” app activities will easily expand with the physical card deck. It can also can be purchased independently from the card set for $1.99 on the iTunes store.

Our other card decks also easily lend themselves to expanding into rich companion apps for small children to enjoy.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

With 14 collective professional Interaction and Graphic Design years between my husband and I, and as parents to twin 3-year-olds, we feel like there’s no better team to create this app. Chris Rittersdorf, Software Craftsman of Mutually Human Software, will develop, test, deploy and update the app.

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

Building and distributing the application to the existing 400 Kickstarter Backers is our initial goal. Once we’re in the iTunes marketplace, we’ll be able to collect quantitative data from our users, make alterations and expand.

This is something that educators would really be interested in !  Let’s make this happen for the advancement in education!  Exciting to see-watching the children respond to the interactive process from a very young age, can have great benefits -immediate feedback for learning.  Excellent idea!

Sounds like fun for the children with some education slipped in.  Many kids 3 and up are already somewhat computer literate and would be able to interact with the physical cards.

My granddaughter LOVES the alphabet cards Marie-Claire first created and an iOS app to go with this new set is a fantastic addition.

This idea really resonates now - many in our own government ought to take a look at this, the bank card part! I am curious as to how you are progressing. If you are open to further dialogue, via email, I would like to ask you a few questions; my wife and I are pursuing a similar path and would like to hear some “words of wisdom” from somebody a bit further down the path to success!
