Pandora of 3D printing

Provides an interface to facilitate the licensing of rights and designs for 3D printing. launch.modelyst.com

What's the big idea?

Just as the personal computer revolution led to intellectual property battles, piracy, and a general distaste of the music and entertainment industry, without a solution the 3D printing industry is headed down the same path. However, there is a proven solution, users have monetarily expressed their desire for services like Pandora. By using a series of licensing agreements in addition to ad and subscription-based revenue our project will provide users with a legal and convenient way to download and use 3D designs.

Describe the nearest player in your field.

3D Content Central is an online service for locating, configuring, and downloading free CAD drawings of supplier parts, components, and assemblies. However, their inventory and selection of 3D models is comparatively small and their interface for downloading is rather cumbersome.

How are you different from that player?

Our idea differs because not only does it allow downloading of supplier parts but it creates a community for uploading, marketing, and sharing designs. Our all-in-one interface creates a community allowing artists, designers, and rights holders to distribute their designs for free our for profit.

How's the world different with your idea in it?

People want innovation, corporations want cash, we provide an interface for both. With our idea people will be able to truly realize the disruptive and innovative power of 3D printing. Ex. A part breaks, rather than ordering a new one someone could just download the file and make a replacement.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

We are committed to and truly believe that 3D printing has the potential to be larger than the adoption of the personal computer.  Within a month, we have created white papered, filed a patent, started development and much more. We will not stop until 3D printing has reached its maximum potential.

I think you are right in thinking that 3D printing (or whatever you want to call it) will be huge.  Good luck.

  2. Irsan Gunawan

I only know 3D Printing from Youtube. I am not really sure how you going to enable this. Anyway, Good Luck.

There are plenty of 3D CAD vaults around the web.  How will yours be different?  Will there be a monthly charge to access the database?

@Jon, thanks for the encouragement. Good luck with your own projects.
@Irsan, without a thorough understanding of 3D printing, licensing agreements, and development experiance it may be difficult do understand how we are attempted to do this. We’ve worked out a white paper, from a technical standpoint we are very confident in our ability to create and scale our solution. Thanks for the luck!
@Salvatore, you bring up a very good point. Numerous people have mentioned the same thing and while I can’t say the details about how we plan to differentiate ourselves I can say that we have a plan in place and our ready to execute it. As for the monthly charge we are considering that for premium accounts whith a few extra features. We plan to always have a free account version with access to the database. We’ve also worked out a number of pivot possibilities if something does not go to plan or our market assumptions were incorrect.

Also, we just got a landing page up! Check it out http://launch.modelyst.com/ , we’ve changed Katalyst Solutions to Modelyst to avoid Copyrights and get a better domain. If we receive funding the majority of the seed investment will be used to get a beta minimum viable product site up and running. You can sign up for early access through out landing page above.

    All the best!

We (Michigan) needs to become home to as many global platforms in emerging disruptive industries ... I look forward to Modelyst.com’s progress…

Hi Milan, I appreciate your interest. I have been a big fan of the Michigan start up scene; hopefully we will make it out there.  I have been exploring a number of startup accelerator/incubator opportunities - if all goes well we may get some support.

I will keep everyone up to date if any major developments happen.

    Thanks!

Just to let everyone know; things have been progressing well at this stage.

We have begun development on the website and some of the more advanced features are progressing well. On our current bootstrap budget it seams as though we will have a minimum viable product around December of this year.

    All the best
