What's the big idea?
Vintage travel trailers have a huge following and “glamping” is rising in popularity. Travel back in time at RetroRentals! We want to offer a unique and affordable camping experience in a fully restored, vintage camper! Each camper will have it’s own theme such as the Motown Motel, a ‘55 Detroiter; My Blue Heaven, a ‘58 Tour-A-Home; and the Travelin’ Tortoise, a 1940-something Teardrop.
Become a tin can tourist in a RetroRental. Be the talk of the campground. Be a canned-ham fanatic.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
There are no companies that rent vintage campers that can be pulled to your destination. Cruise America, a nationwide rental company or General RV, a West Michigan trailer dealership are rental companies that only rent pop-up campers and newer travel trailers.
How are you different from that player?
We are different in that we would rent vintage campers. We offer a unique experience in camping with a very different niche in the rental business.
How does this idea scale into a big business?
We hope to restore and rent 10-20 different campers and also offer them for sale. We can also restore campers people may already own. We also would like to expand to other states eventually.
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
We already own a mobile RV repair service, Happy Camper Mobile RV Service LLC, therefore we can do our own restorations and repairs to keep the costs down. We have already purchased some campers to start restorations on. We have rented out a couple pop-ups in the past and found there is a demand.
What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?
It would help us get a website up and running and offer some income to get started on the restorations of the campers we current own. It will also help with some advertising to help kick off our grand opening this spring.
