What's the big idea?
Engaged couples, primarily brides, spend months to years planning their special day. Wedding professionals assisting these couples also spend hours trying to locate the items they need to style their wedding involving a lot of travel, time, energy and resources. After the wedding couples are left with multiple items they can no longer use. Sweet Pea Hill allows those two groups can connect. Yesterday’s bridal couples can sell their leftovers & upcoming bridal couples can purchase gently used items at a discounted rate. Others working in the wedding market will also save time and energy.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
This is a new concept for the area. A few florists have some stock and many stores do general resale & consignment but none are dedicated to weddings & events exclusively. There are several internet sites trying to connect people. These are not physical locations and require a lot of extra time.
How are you different from that player?
Being focused on weddings and other events sets us apart. Allowing bridal couples to sell their items to a store instead of trying to make internet connections. Having items from multiple weddings available in one place will allow a bridal couple to experiment and create their own unique style.
How does this idea scale into a big business?
Our initial focus will be on weddings. We plan to grow into other event resale including holiday parties, showers, graduations, anniversaries, photos shoots, & corporate events. In time, we hope to create a wedding resource center which will provide opportunities for others in the wedding industry.
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
This is our original idea. We have secured the location & are open for business. We have 15 years’ experience with resale & event planning. Favorable interest in our concept has been shown in tests at the Downtown Market, our store & media articles by Rapid Growth Media & Grand Rapids Magazine.
What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?
The $5,000 will allow us to purchase resale items directly from bridal couples. Having a large inventory from which to choose is paramount to succeeding. The money will also help us begin our marketing efforts to both obtain the inventory and reach those who are desiring to purchase it.
