This Day in Art

Crowdsourced digital art exhibit connecting emerging artists with large scale audiences.

What's the big idea?

This Day in Art provides emerging artists with a venue and an opportunity to have their work showcased in an online, people’s choice, battle of the bands style art exhibit. Each artist earns the number of days that their gallery is featured by beating out the daily challenger. Who can challenge? Anybody & everybody. Artists of all forms. Poetry can challenge cinematography, music can challenge graphic design, painting can challenge photography.

The site is comprised of 3 simple pages:
1) Homepage = daily exhibit
2) Challenge = voting page
3) Upload = pre-challenge

Describe the nearest player in your field.

Currently, the closest competitor is the “gallery” feature on popular sites such as vimeo, flickr, soundcloud, etc. But none of these host an artists work in the same way that an exhibit would. They are simply repositories for all users to host their work in mass.

How are you different from that player?

TDIA allows artists to go head to head with each other’s work. The community then votes via social sharing. The winner would then be awarded with a single day on the home page. Every day after that, a challenger attempts to dethrone them and take over the exhibit.

How does this idea scale into a big business?

We would establish ourselves as curators in the emerging art scene.
Scaling would begin with sponsored challenges and minimalistic display advertising.

Eventually, it could turn into a physical traveling art exhibit based on a years worth of TDIA hosted exhibits.

Why are you the one to run with this idea?

I have experience setting up websites for fortune 500 companies as well as marketing, advertising, branded sponsorship integrations, and event planning. Art is a personal passion both as a creator and an appreciator. There’s no reason not to run with it!

What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?

Any funding that is received up front would be put toward simple, intuitive site design.

Features such as:
• Intuitive uploading feature
• Dynamic social sharing and vote tallying
• Customizable homepage
