What's the big idea?
WMConnection is a smartphone app that has daily West Michigan bar and restaurant specials. It will have a “Four Square” feature where various establishments will offer specific deals only through WMConnection by “Checking In”. It automatically links with the GPS on your phone to see that you are actually in that given place.
Describe the nearest player in your field.
Michigan Evening Out. They have deals and specials for local businesses, but they only offer it on a website.
How are you different from that player?
My ‘niche’ in this field is that I am intertwined with colleges in West Michigan. Businesses are not allowed to advertise on campus, but with my involvement with various classes and clubs, businesses can advertise through WMConnection to reach a public they couldn’t before.
How does this idea scale into a big business?
If my business plan works in West Michigan for utilizing my relationships with colleges to advertise for businesses on campus, I can take it to other college towns such as Kalamazoo, East Lansing, and Mount Pleasant.
Why are you the one to run with this idea?
I have a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, and have worked in sales for the past two years. I can relate to what my demographic appeals to and what we find useful. This is something that we all have been waiting for, and the mass needs to know about it.
What is a $5,000 experiment you can do to move your idea forward?
We are going to sponsor a Spring Break trip for 2 to anywhere in the U.S. We are also going to sponsor events such as Greek Life, athletic events, and have launch parties at local establishments. It will also go towards ads on radio stations and GR Outdoor billboards for all GR residents to see.
